Once again Sunrisers Hyderabad showed why they are the best when it comes to defending a total as they defeated Rajasthan Royals by 11 runs in their clash at the Sawai Man Singh stadium in Jaipur. With this win, the Hyderabad-based outfit go to the top of the table with 12 points in eight matches.
After choosing to bat first, Hyderabad lost the wicket of opener Shikhar Dhawan cheaply before skipper Kane Williamson joined IPL debutant Alex Hales at the crease. The duo put on 92 runs off 11 overs for the second wicket before K Gowtham, who got the wicket of Shikhar Dhawan, returned to dismiss Alex Hales for a well-made 39-ball 45. Williamson continued his good work and scored his fifty before he became his countryman Ish Sodhi’s maiden IPL wicket as he bottom-edged one to Jos Buttler for 63 off 43 balls with the help of seven fours and two sixes.
Vivo IPL 2018 SHR vs RR 28th Match Review
Jofra Archer came to bowl his last two overs and derailed the Sunrisers innings by picking three quick wickets. The visitors managed to score just 151/7 in their 20 overs. Chasing 152 to win, Rajasthan Royals got off to a steady start in spite of losing Rahul Tripathi early, thanks to some flamboyant array of strokeplay from Sanju Samson.
The youngster departed for 40 and four balls later, Ben Stokes was castled by Yusuf Pathan for a three-ball duck. Jos Buttler didn’t do much for the hosts as he was dismissed for 10. Skipper Ajinkya Rahane was sailing in one end and reached his fifty in a snail’s pace and made things difficult for his team. Sid Kaul’s figures of 2/23, along with a wicket apiece from Sandeep Sharma, Basil Thampi, Rashid Khan and Yusuf Pathan, helped Sunrisers Rajasthan for just 140 runs in their 20 overs.
Turning point: Ajinkya Rahane’s innings of unbeaten 65 off 53 balls proved to be too slow for the Royals. Their skipper was well set and he should have accelerated at the right time instead of just blocking the balls and rotating the strike.
